Sheriff’s office responds to early morning incidents

On Feb. 20, 2020 at approximately 1:45 a.m. a deputy with the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer dark blue in color for an equipment violation. This vehicle then attempted to flee and elude the deputy, leading into a pursuit from inside the village of Warsaw.

After a 15-minute pursuit, this vehicle crashed on County Road 33 in Tiverton Township. A male and female then fled from the vehicle on foot into a wooded area where they were apprehended a short time later. The male driver was identified as Ronnie R. McCain II (41) of Warsaw and the female passenger was identified as Shana L. Courtney (35) of Coshocton.

McCain was a wanted person out of two counties including Coshocton County. A loaded firearm was located inside the vehicle. No injuries were reported from the result of the crash. McCain and Courtney were both taken to the Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges after review with the Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assisting the sheriff’s office on scene were Prince’s Wrecker Service and the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.

McCain was then involved in an altercation in A block of the jail at 5:12 a.m. Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office Correction’s Officers responded and found that an assault had taken place. Upon contact with the victim, it was found that he  was severely injured. Correction’s officers immediately called for EMS to respond to the justice center for medical attention. McCain was then transported to the Coshocton Regional Medical Center where he was later flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by medical helicopter. Injuries are unknown at this time for McCain. Darrel L. Lanham Jr. (34) of Warsaw remains in custody on an unrelated case. The filing of formal charges are pending for this incident after review of this case with the Coshocton County Prosecutor’s Office.
