Warsaw Lions Club organizing raffle

| October 27, 2020

The Warsaw Lions Club annual variety show has been canceled for this year due to the COVID pandemic. About 80% of their budget stems from the show which helps groups and organizations in the community.

“We considered a virtual show but with production and filming it wouldn’t have been profitable,” said Jim Williamson, raffle chairperson.

Instead, the club is requesting donations of gift cards or gift certificates from local businesses to be used in a raffle on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Some of the prizes donated so far include a handmade red oak table 62 inches long by 22 inches wide made by Williamson, as well as certificates from the House of G.A. Fisher in Roscoe Village and Buehler’s to name a few. The club is accepting donations valued from $10 to $50 for the raffle and raffle tickets may be purchase for $10 each or three for $25. Raffle tickets can be purchased  over the phone, in person or through the mail by sending your name, address and telephone number along with a check for the amount to Warsaw Lions Club, P.O. Box 72, Warsaw OH 43844. Ticket orders must be in by Friday, Nov. 13. The number to call for tickets or to donate is Williamson’s at 740-824-3803 and 740-502-9611.

“For mail in purchases, I absolutely guarantee we will enter your ticket and information into the drawing,” he said. “We’re doing pretty well so far. Thanks to the community for buying tickets. We want to thank them for their generosity. People have been really good in supporting us.”

Fighting blindness has been the primary focus of the Lions Clubs, which at this time still sponsors free eye screening programs through mobile clinics, pays for cataract surgeries for under privileged and collects eye glasses for those in need. Besides blindness, the Lions Clubs also sponsor programs to provide schoolbooks for children, feed the hungry, provide transportation for seniors and raise money for disaster relief. Groups meet regularly to discuss possible opportunities to give back and there’s a certain level of freedom that allows local groups to make decisions based on what their communities need.
