Enjoy the downtown salute to spring

| May 4, 2024

Because the dogwoods are blooming, and it’s spring and because music makes life interesting and your heart leap, the Pomerene Center for the Arts announces Dogwood, lunch concerts, an annual event (with two years off for Covid) since 1985.

This year’s schedule is as follows: Noon, Tuesday through Friday, May 7-10. Tuesday, May 7 the Coshocton High School Jazz Band and Choir will perform. On Wednesday, May 8 the River View Jazz Band, Caribbean Drum and Certified Gold Ensembles will entertain. The Thursday, May 9 performer is Ridgewood High School Choirs and the Friday, May 10 performers are from the Ridgewood High School Jazz Band.

Curious about what being in a school band or choir means to kids, Pomerene Artistic Director Anne Cornell asked last year “what’s good about this for you?” Without prepared responses the students repeatedly said that belonging, being a part of a supportive group was really important. Cornell then asked the directors how the community can best support their programs, to a person the band and choir directors answered — be our audience.  Dawn Anglin of River View added “and bring someone young with you.”

The Pom invites you to come out, bring someone young and help them kick off their free outdoor concert season. Dogwood will be held at noon in the artPARK, 325 Main St. in Coshocton. Rain site is the fellowship room at Coshocton Presbyterian Church.

This year with much anticipation, the Pom will be rolling out (literally) their new smokeless flat top wood grills and serving grilled cheese sandwiches featuring Coshocton County’s world champion swiss with a selection of other cheeses made at Pearl Valley Cheese. The Pom is asking folks to pre order lunches on their website.
