Donald Eugene Ames
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Eugene Ames on June 3rd, 2025, at the age of 80 following a years-long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Don was born in Coshocton, Ohio on November 10, 1944 to Pete and Garnet Ames. Don leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Cheryl Ames.
After growing up on the family farm in Chili and attending Fresno High School, Don went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts from Wilmington College. Don married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Cheryl Drake, and moved along the East Coast where he welcomed three wonderful sons eventually settling in Herndon, Virginia. Don was a successful sales manager at several large telecommunications companies and held various senior management jobs over the course of his career. Don was a devoted husband, loving father and patient grandfather. Don will be affectionately remembered for his unyielding work ethic, polished style, willingness to always lend a hand, and his overall selfless approach to life.
Don has now entered the gates of heaven to join his family and friends who have preceded him in death to include his parents Howard (Pete) David Ames and Garnet Irene Bickle, and his uncle, Claude Ames. Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cheryl Ames, his 3 sons, Tim (Suzie), Jason (Carmen) and Brian (Betsy), 7 grandchildren, Austin, Bailey, Jase, Zach, Brian Jr., Eva, and John, and his siblings, Linda, Mary, Marilyn, and Bill.
A memorial service celebrating Don’s life will be held on June 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 12:00pm at Coshocton County Memory Gardens, officiated by Pastor Dairel Kaiser. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or the Organization for Autism Research.
