Flags lowered in honor of late councilman
COSHOCTON – Coshocton City Councilman Jim Baker passed away Dec. 2 and Mayor Steve Mercer ordered the United States flag be flown at half staff at City Hall and upon all city buildings and grounds to honor him.
“I was very surprised to hear the news,” said Mayor Steve Mercer. “I talked with him just a day or two ago. When something like this happens it really catches you off guard.”
Baker was a dedicated councilman for the City of Coshocton since Jan. 1, 2010. Flags will stay lowered until Baker’s funeral.
“He loved feeling like he was contributing to the city and he was,” Mercer said.
The Mayor said Baker was a member of the Democratic Party so the Democratic Central Committee will be responsible for filling his vacant position on council.
