Craft time connects to summer reading theme

| July 13, 2023

The Coshocton Public Library’s theme this year is All Together Now to celebrate the summer reading program with the theme of friendship, kindness, and unity. The idea is there are many cultures in our world so let’s make it a wonderful place.

Every other week during the program children can create crafts from lifestyles around the world.

On July 13 children made rain sticks to represent Australia. Rain sticks can be made of any type of hollow tube with aluminum foil and filled with rice, which create a gentle plinking sound as they rain down the length of the tube. They decorated the tubes with stickers.

Youth services coordinator Janice Sycks said, “The kids come in and do a craft and have playtime. This is related to the summer reading program theme All Together Now. It shows different cultures and things from different countries. We are visiting different countries to show that we are all together. Today we are doing World of Wonder for our craft day. We are going to Australia and making rain sticks. In two weeks, we will be going to China. It shows different cultures and things from different countries.”

Evelyn and Eliana Latynski attend the programs with Joan Jones. “We come to pretty much everything,” she said. “We do preschool time, and we see Miss Janice when we are doing things like story time. They have learned so much. We come for this program too. We love it, it’s great.”

Play time includes a bubble machine, hula hoops and bowling. Kids especially like the bubbles.

Drop into the library every other week during the Summer Reading Program to create crafts from cultures around the world. The All Together Now program will be at West Lafayette Branch Library on Tuesdays and Coshocton Public Library on Wednesdays and Thursdays. All three programs for the week have the same content. No registration is required. Age groups include children age 3-6 and children age 7-12- contact the youth services department for more information.
