Juvenile taken into custody after chase
On June 5, at approximately 03:15 a.m. the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a motor vehicle accident in the 500 block of South Seventh Street in the city of Coshocton.
Upon arrival, it was determined by deputies that a 2020 Kia Forte had backed into a pole in the parking lot of Circle K. As deputies attempted to gather the driver’s information the driver jumped into the Kia and took off at a high rate of speed traveling South on South Seventh Street.
At the intersection of South Seventh Street and Otsego Avenue the Kia failed to negotiate a left hand turn striking the guardrail. The Kia then continued southeast on Otsego Avenue at speeds around 100 mph. As the Kia approached State Route 83 the Kia made a left hand turn continuing southbound on SR 83 with speeds up to 90 mph. Upon reaching County Road 7 the Kia made another left hand turn onto Count Road 7 traveling east reaching speeds up to 60 mph. At this time it was discovered that the Kia had been reported stolen out of Licking County.
Near the intersection of Township Road 140 deputies performed a controlled contact forcing the Kia off of the left hand side of the roadway and into an embankment. The driver was swiftly taken into custody without further incident. The driver was identified as a runaway juvenile out of Licking County. The juvenile was transported to CRMC by Coshocton County EMS with complaint type injuries.
This incident is being reviewed by the Coshocton County Prosecutors Office for the filing of formal charges. Assisting at the scene was Coshocton County EMS, and Princes Wrecker Services.
