Kathleen Marie Hootman
Kathleen Marie Hootman, 84, of Conesville, peacefully passed away May 13, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 13, 1940, to the late Raymond and Gertrude (Lapp) Green in Adams Township, Muskingum County. Kathleen was one of 14 children, with 10 surviving to adulthood. She was the only daughter growing up among nine brothers.
Her childhood was defined by a strong work ethic on the farm, where she cared for the gardens, picked berries, and lovingly looked after her four younger brothers—John, Jim, Tom, and Tony. Kathleen graduated from Adamsville High School in 1958 alongside her brother Harold. After graduation, she moved to Coshocton to live with family while working at Edmonts.
In 1960, Kathleen married Gary “Red” Hootman and together they made their lifelong home on Adams Street in Conesville.
Known for her remarkable patience and selflessness, Kathleen showed her love most deeply through acts of service. She devoted herself to caring for those around her, including her parents and mother-in-law, Anna Hootman. Her kindness and quiet strength were a constant source of comfort to her family.
Kathleen was a skilled quilter and seamstress- always fixing clothes for the family. She was a long-time member of the Canal Quilters Club. Kathleen cooked with love and was best known for her homemade rolls, noodles, pies and raspberry jelly.
She is survived by her daughters Janet (Chuck) Michael, Jody (Eric) Wright, and Debi (Tim) Hootman-Ng; her siblings Tom Green and Tony (Wanda) Green and sister-in- laws Mary Green and Lajoy Green. Kathleen was a special Granny to Ryan (Heather) Michael, Kimberly (Tyler) Schroeder, Erika (Brian Scheetz) Michael, Jared Michael, Payton (Derek) Robertson, Adyson Wright, Caleb Wright, Scott Hootman-Ng and Michelle Ng. Her great-grandchildren—Tate, Bodey, Blaine, and Harper—were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Red, her parents, and 11 siblings: Charles, Floyd, Homer, Gerald, Dale, Robert, Harold, Janice, John, James, and a stillborn brother.
Friends are invited to a celebration of life at the Roscoe United Methodist Fellowship Hall on Monday, May 19, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Kathleen will be laid to rest alongside Red at a later date in Franklin Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
