SR 93 boat ramp open near West Lafayette
Ryan Cottrell was part of Leadership Coshocton and was looking for a project to suggest to the class. After talking to first responders and others, he realized that a boat ramp on State Route 93 would be a great idea. Even though the leadership class passed on the project, Cottrell looked for support in other places.
The new boat ramp was completed in early July and is located at the bridge over the Tuscarawas River near West Lafayette. Mayor Jessie Tubbs, West Lafayette Fire Chief Damon Gould and West Lafayette Police Chief Morgan Eckelberry all thought of the safety aspect of having another way to access the river in the event of a water rescue.
Cottrell shared that the boat ramp project is a great example of community spirit, improving river access for everyone and helping the fire department in emergencies. This also gives more spots for people to enjoy floating and fishing.”
Before this ramp was completed, first responders needed to get on the river at the Orange Bridge on SR 751 and float down river or use the ramp at Skip’s Landing and motor up river. This ramp gives a faster response time which could save lives.
Cottrell said, “This ramp also gives people more access to the businesses in West Lafayette and supporting small, local businesses is important to everyone.”
Vic Allen and his team played a huge part in getting this ramp completed. “Vic was great. We poured a concrete ramp and slid it into the river. A picnic table is near the ramp, too, so people can just sit by the river and unwind.”
The ramp is sponsored by Vic Allen Construction, Morgan Eckelberry, Ryan Cottrell, We R WL and Yippee Kayak.
“Much of this was possible thanks to the help of Vic Allen and others who supported and worked in the project. Your efforts have created something valuable that will benefit the community for years.” Cottrell is hoping to be elected as a Lafayette Trustee and that this ramp will be the start of many valuable projects for the community.
