Summer reading program theme is Color Our World
The Coshocton County District Library, West Lafayette Branch Library, and bookmobile are preparing for another summer of fun, engaging, family-friendly programs and opportunities for patrons.
As always, the library encourages everyone to continue reading throughout the summer to maintain and strengthen reading skills. Youth may record the amount of time they spend reading using paper reading logs or using a digital platform called Beanstack. Youth may earn coupons and prizes for the time they read, and they may be entered for a chance to win a grand prize.
The theme this year is Color Our World with many programs and activities featuring art. Everyone is invited to make their world a little more colorful this summer by reading, completing activities, attending programs, and using other library resources and services.
The library thanks community businesses, organizations, and individuals for their generous support of the summer reading program. The program, including crafts, activities, programs, prizes, and other reading incentives, are provided entirely by community members and the library is grateful for their support.
Attend kickoff events to pick up materials for summer reading and participate in other activities. To join in on the fun, come to the east lawn of the main library on Thursday, May 29 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. or the reading shelter at the branch library on Friday, May 30 from 3-4:30 p.m.
Throughout the rest of the summer, the library has a variety of activities and programs. Visit coshoctonlibrary.org, for a full calendar of events and register for programs online or by calling the main library at 740-622-0956 or the branch library at 740-545-6672.
Lapsit, story time for ages 0-3, and preschool story time, for ages 3-6, will take place twice a week at Coshocton and once a week West Lafayette every week in the summer. There also will be story times in parks throughout Coshocton County every other Monday during the summer reading program. Make sure to check the library calendar for locations near you.
Just like during the regular year, the library will continue to have book club for grades 3-6 every month. In June and July, it will offer weekly Monday crafts for children at the main library and branch library. There will be programs for tweens and teens at the branch library in June and July. The weekly teen plugged and unplugged programs will rotate different activities each week with art, board games, puzzles, and computers.
Family game night will be on Monday, July 7. There will be four virtual author presentations throughout June and July. Don’t forget to check out the newly refreshed story walk at Clary Gardens.
This summer the library will also host special presenter programs. There will be two opportunities to attend Catch an Art Thief to learn about art history, solve puzzles, and create masterpieces. Fantastical Hedgehog Magic will feature an interactive magic show with an appearance by Sedgie the Hedgie, a live hedgehog. Finally, there will be an afternoon with the Coshocton Dulcimer Gathering to listen to music and learn about the history and art of the dulcimer.
In addition to programs at the library and offsite, youth may participate in individual activities like scavenger hunts and BINGO. A set of activities will be available with your summer reading materials and new ones will be available in July.
Similar to previous summers, Coshocton County District Library has coordinated schedules with Clary Gardens, Historic Roscoe Village, Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, and Pomerene Center for the Arts to maximize opportunities for Coshocton families to take part in youth programming. Youth who attend 10 programs at any of those locations may collect stamps to earn free admission to Lake Park Aquatic Center.
