Thomas Frank “Tom”Thompson

HANOVER – Thomas Frank “Tom” Thompson, 63, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at his residence.

He was born Nov. 16, 1954 in Coshocton to the late Melvin and Lena Margaret (Powell) Thompson. He was a 1972 graduate of Ridgewood High School, and was the Sales Manager and Sports Director for WTNS radio, having started at the age of 18 in Feb. 1973. He worked at the radio station for 45 years, up until his death. He was the “sports voice” of WTNS and Coshocton County as a whole. He worked play-by-play at countless youth sporting events over the years, He received the OHSAA Media Service Award for the East District 1998-1999, and in 2014 he received the Ohio District 5 Hall of Honor Award from the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association. Tom was also very active in American Legion baseball, as a past coach and supporter. While his dream of growing up to be the second baseman for the Cleveland Indians may not have worked out, he remained an avid fan. He was a member and past-President of the Coshocton Kiwanis; past-President of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee; a past-member of the Coshocton City Schools Board of Education and chaired numerous city school levies; past-President of Dollars for Scholars; and he was an Elder at the Coshocton Presbyterian Church. 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 44 years, Jennifer (Ott) Thompson of Hanover, whom he married Dec. 14, 1974; two children, Jayme (Drew) Davis of Westerville, and Alton (Nikki) Thompson of Hanover; four granddaughters, Anderson & Kennedy Davis, and Maci & Mya Thompson; a brother, Bob (Jean) Thompson of Florida; a sister, Dorothy “Jane” Fleming of Coshocton; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ann Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018 at the Coshocton High School Gymnasium (1205 Cambridge Rd. Coshocton, OH 43812) with Pastor Sarah Juist officiating. The Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements – www.fischerfuneralhome.com.
