Wilma G. (Scherer) Banks
Wilma G. (Scherer) Banks, My Mom has finally gotten her wish at age 97 on June 3, 2025, she went on to be with the Lord. She was born in Coshocton, Ohio on July 27,1927, to Ray and Edith Donley.
She was preceded by her parents, an infant brother William, three other brothers and their wives. Wayne and Louise, Willard and Doris, Wilmer (Harold) and Pauline. Also, a sister.
Waunita and (George) Lapp. Wilma was also preceded by her husband Oscar Jr. Scherer of forty-five wonderful years.
She previously resided nineteen years at The Meadows Senior Apartments in Springdale, Ohio where she met and married Raymond Banks. They were joyfully married for seven years. Ray
preceded her along with her son Jerry Scherer, his wife Lureatha, Ray’s son-in-law Cliff Breeden and a caring niece Candy Scherer. She was also preceded by her dedicated son-in- law John A Campbell and a cherished granddaughter Candy R. Gilb. She was preceded by many family members and friends, too many to list.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Linda F. Campbell and loving granddaughter Sandy
(Mike) Retherford. She will be missed by her great grandchildren Miranda Damico, Stacey Retherford, Mirah Retherford, Zander Gilb and Gavin Gilb; and two great great-grandsons Nathan Bacon and Oliver Keiser.
She also leaves behind very special family members: Henry Sester, Cheryl Breeden, Charlene Robertson, Chris Gilb, Sandra Scherer, Sheila Donley, Richard and Carrol Campbell and Kevin and Michelle Kraft.
She will be remembered by her wonderful caregivers and staff at Veranda Gardens where she resided for over thirteen years. Many called her “Mom” and several checked on her, even if she wasn’t assigned to them. I remember some of them had their breaks or lunch with her. There was one nurse that danced as she entered mom’s room. So many added their personal touch that kept her happy. An example, she was comfortable in her room because it was kept clean, making sure the windowsill was clean which she had a fear of “invisible bugs.”
She touched many lives in her 97 years and even more touched her life. As Jerry and I grew up she was always helping others. Most of all she’ll be remembered for being a happy, talkative and a funny lady.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11: 00 am in Coshocton, Ohio at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made in Wilma’s name to the charity of your choice.
