Suicide prevention coalition planning event

| September 5, 2018

COSHOCTON – The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Coshocton County will hold a suicide prevention outreach event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Hopewell School. September is Suicide Awareness Month and the coalition felt that it is important to do something big each year during the month of September to raise awareness around the issue of suicide and what people can do to help.

Jessica Paynter, coalition co-chair, has been busy planning a much bigger event than last year. The intent of the event is to help break the stigma of talking about suicide and bring awareness to the issue.

The event will include an art show. Anyone who would like to participate is encouraged to submit a piece of art for the show keeping in mind the theme of “In the Darkness, Find the Light.” Art show submissions will be accepted the day of the event until 10:30 a.m. Judging will take place at 11 a.m. with awards to be handed out at the in the afternoon after the educational presentation. There will be a craft vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the school. Vendors are coming from as far as Lima and as close as right here in Coshocton. Some of the vendors this year are: Jordan Essentials, Norwex, LulaRoe, Thirty-One, Plunder, Color Street, Pink Zebra, Tupperware, Mary Kay and many more. Musical entertainment will be happening throughout the day. The Real McCoy BBQ will be on site to provide attendees with a wonderful selection of food and drinks.

The educational presentation will take place at 1 p.m. Following the guest speaker’s presentation will be a drawing for the great raffle prizes that have been donated. Some of the raffle prizes include: tickets, autographed photos from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Columbus Blue Jackets, tickets to the Akron Rubber Ducks, African Safari Wildlife Park, Newport Aquarium, and gift cards to many great places in the surrounding areas. Raffle tickets will be on sale soon for a $1 each or six for $5. Available the day of the event for purchase will be suicide prevention t-shirts $15 – $20 depending on size.

Sixth Street Tattoo is this year’s event sponsor. Anyone wishing to donate to the cause can contact Paynter or bring donations to the event before noon. For more information, contact Paynter by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 740-502-9543.
