COSHOCTON – About 30 children and their families gathered in the dining room of Altercare on Friday, Dec. 14 waiting for a very special guest – Santa!

Before Santa’s big arrival, the children, all wearing pajamas, sat around Mayor Steve Mercer to hear the classic Christmas story “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” They even helped him name all of Santa’s reindeer. After the story, everyone enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate, served by Santa’s elves, while they waited for Santa’s big appearance.

Susan Foster, activities director at Altercare, said this is the third or fourth year they have held the event and it gets bigger each year. “We have limited space, so I try to limit the number of children to 24, but this year, I had to make an emergency call to get more items for the stockings Santa gives out to each child. It’s growing every year.” Foster said the children and residents really enjoy the event.

A loud cheer went up as Santa made his entrance. Children either rushed to give him pictures they had colored, or they stayed close to a parent. They quickly formed a line so they could have a turn on Santa’s lap and tell him what they hoped to find under their tree on Christmas morning.

Chloe Stafford wants a Barbie Dreamhouse and Braxton Twarog is hoping for Legos. Ava Moody wants Play-Doh and said that her little sister, Ella, should get an orange Splat ball.
