COSHOCTON – The Coshocton KOA campground kicked off the summer season with a new pool for its campers.

“We saw a swimming pool as a central attraction and place the campers could gather around,” said Ryan McPeek, who owns the campground with his wife Camille.

The pool officially opened Friday, May 26, and the McPeeks wondered how well it would be received by campers, but they got their answer that evening.

“By 8 p.m. that night everyone was in it,” Ryan said.

Kerry Croghan’s boys were two of several children who enjoyed the pool Thursday afternoon, June 1.

“The pool’s not too big and it’s not too deep,” she said. “It feels nice and safe.”

The heated pool has a shallow end that is only eight inches deep and goes up to five feet deep.

“We are hoping it’s a way to attract more family campers,” Camille said.

The pool is open to campers from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and until 9 p.m. on the weekends. The McPeeks also are working on the possibility of opening the pool up to the public.

While the fine details of the pool area aren’t quite finished, both Ryan and Camille are very happy with the pieces that are complete.

“I really like our stamped concrete that was done locally by Grason Properties and the grassy area where you can throw down a blanket and read a book if you want,” Camille said.

Ryan said they also planted a palm tree that is supposed to be winter hardy and they want to add some more pool furniture.

Right next to the pool they have a new picnic shelter area complete with bathrooms.

“We are going to do our arts and crafts for our themed weekends there,” Camille said.

The Coshocton KOA Campground has 50 sites for campers that can be used for RVs or tents. It is located at 24688 CR 10 and more information can be found at http://koa.com/campgrounds/coshocton/ or by looking them up on Facebook.
