James “Jim” Eugene Jones

NEWCOMERSTOWN – James “Jim” Eugene Jones, 82, of Newcomerstown went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Mt Carmel East in Columbus, after a brief illness.

Jim was born on August 26, 1936 in Roscoe. He was the son of the late Howard Jones and Esther (Mencer) Jones Bice, as well as his step-father Ed Bice.

Jim attended Jefferson High School and was an avid member of the Moose Lodge where he earned the highest degree of the order, becoming a Pilgrim and was just recently achieving the lifetime member award.

Jim married Nancy (Cullins) Jones on July 21, 1956 and welcomed their two beautiful daughters, Cynthia Jones Thornsley and Rebecca Jones Dovenbarger. James worked over 30 years at Pretty Products until he retired. He loved his family, word search books, watching birds, the History Channel, and the local courthouse.  He was a regular caller of the WTNS talk show as well.

Jim was a member of the Isleta United Methodist Church and a longtime Santa Clause around Coshocton County, and a member of the Blue Ridge Grange. Alongside his wife of 62 years he leaves behind his two daughters, Cynthia (Bill) Thornsley of Coshocton and Becky (Eddie) Dovenbarger of Newcomerstown; three grandchildren Tonya (Melvin) McVay of Coshocton, Chad (Ashley) Thornsley of Coshocton, Tiffany (Beau) Hostetler of Newcomerstown; and 11 great grandchildren, Cody, Emily, Devin, Bradyn, Abby, Jacey, Blaine, Karley, Jared, Kiah, and Kelsea; two living aunts Bonnie Mencer of Coshocton and Anna Mae Roahrig of Plainfield; brother and sister-in-laws Jerry and Wava Strohacker of Dresden who are longtime traveling companions and friends; also left behind are his two beloved wiener dogs Sissy and Madison.

Friends may call at the Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812 on Friday August 10, 2018 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm and one hour prior to the funeral service.  Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating.  Memorial contributions can be directed towards the Isleta United Methodist Church, envelopes with be available at the funeral home.
