Local Bounty update

| October 17, 2013

Good morning Local Bounty shoppers: It’s fall harvest season is in full swing…complete with sweet potatoes, kale, and other fresh produce. We’re welcoming two new vendors this week and next, so be sure to read about them in the update.

Here’s what some of our vendors will have in store for you this week:

Hiland Naturals Meats

Our shelves at the market have been restocked and there is a huge selection for you to pick from. Yesterday we delivered smoked whole chickens. We also have ground turkey and chicken, chicken breasts, legs and wings. All of our poultry products are pasture raised in Killbuck. In addition to grass and bugs, their diet also consists of certified non-GMO grain.

Keene Creek Farm

Crisp Romaine lettuce. Tender fall salad greens. Zesty jalapenos. These are just a few of the farm-fresh goodies we will have available to Local Bounty today. In addition, don’t forget to check our freezer and stall space for your favorite cuts of pork (sorry, out of bacon and Canadian bacon until November/December) and Marissa’s dry mixes (dips, seasonings, bread and pizza dough).

Strawberry Hill Farm

It’s looking like fall at the farm now, but we still have some summer crops growing. We’re offering a different mix of produce at Local Bounty this week: gallon bags of our salad mix (a mix of lettuces), free range eggs, bags of sweet peppers and zucchini and yellow summer squash (in the cooler), kale, and quart boxes of sweet potatoes. We’re also bringing bags of our mesclun (mixed greens—arugula, tat soi, mezuna, baby kale, and red mustard greens). Mesclun is nutritious and delicious in soups (add just before serving) or on top of eggs or baked potatoes.

Woodberry Farm

The seasons are changing leaves are falling, there is a nip in the air, and so are things changing at the farm. We just got our first large batch of chickens back from the processor and we are once again offering a variety of products. We have boneless-skinless chicken breasts, drumsticks, thighs, wings, ground chicken. We also have maple flavored chicken sausage and mild Italian brats. We are also offering new this fall packages of chicken backs. If you would like a great soup starter for broth boil one or two backs in a pot with some water. We use them on the farm for chicken soup starters. We are also bringing back our goat milk fudge and trail mixes this week. Enjoy the week and enjoy the bounty that the Lord has given us all around us.

We’re Welcoming New Vendors

This week (sometime Friday) we’re welcoming Rachel and Ben Hall to our market. Their family owns and operates Shawnee Springs Winery and Rachel makes up some delicious wine jam. They will also provide some focaccia and other Italian breads. On the non-edible side of vending, they will offer some homemade soy candles and other wine-themed crafts.

Another new vendor, Katie Hultz, will join us next week. Her Cookies, Cupcakes – N – Such endeavor is a hobby turned business. She’s looking forward to baking up some really unique and professionally decorated cookies and cupcakes for you all. She will also have homemade decorations (some edible, others not) for you to purchase if you’d like to accessorize your own homemade cookies/cupcakes. You’ll learn even more about Katie in next week’s update.

Many thanks for your continued support of our market.
