Rev. Wayne P. Harman
Rev. Wayne Pershing Harman, 87, of West Lafayette went to be with the Lord at 6:35 A.M., Wednesday, December 11, 2013.
He was born September 20, 1926 in Holmes County to the late Clarence and Ada (Pershing) Harman.
Wayne served as a Private First Class in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1943 to August 21, 1946 in the South Pacific and participated in the occupation of China after WW II. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #0466 in West Lafayette and a charter member of the West Lafayette Lions Club.
He was a well-known barber in West Lafayette for 66 years and was a member of the Baltic Church of the Brethren. An ordained minister for 53 years, he served his first pastorate at the White Cottage Church of the Brethren, followed by ministering at the Circleville Church of the Brethren, and for 44 years with the Dutch Run Trinity United Church of Christ. He was a photographer for 38 years and was the barber and chaplain at the West Lafayette Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for 32 years. He was active in the River View Ministerial Association for 33 years.
He truly will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Mary Louise Rehard whom he married July 3, 1947, along with two daughters Judith M. (Jeff) Gillett of West Lafayette and Rhonda L. (Lee) Hagelbarger of Piedmont, SC; six grandchildren Kevin (Angela) Gillett and Jason (Rashelle) Gillett, Lisa (Aaron) Bishop, Jennifer (Gamal) Abdo, Angela (Doug) Terrell, Heather (Nick) Black; eleven great-grandchildren Nathan and Justin Gillett, Luke, Meredith and Gwendolyn Bishop, Samirah and Rashad Abdo, Jeremiah and Luna Terrell, Nora Gillett, and Aubrey Black.
In addition to his parents Wayne was preceded in death by a brother Rev. Franklin S. Harman.
To honor Wayne’s request he was cremated with services to be held at a later date. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery in West Lafayette with military honors conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council.
