CINCINNATI – The Road Runner Elite 18U travel softball team managed to get only three games completed before being totally washed out at the Queen City Showdown in Cincinnati on Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15.

In Friday’s pool games, the team came out strong to defeat a tough Bambinos team 15-2 in a three inning mercy rule win. Jenna Jaskowiak (St. Clairsville) scattered four hits to get the win on the mound. Janessa Dawson (Tri-Valley/Grove City, PA) ripped a triple and a single with two RBI’s and scored twice, Maiah Bell (Philo) had a double and single with three RBI’s, Mikensi Ehlinger (River View/Bowling Green), a double and single with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Mikala Ehlinger (River View/ Wright State) smacked a triple, and Alex Lemley ( Tri-Valley/Appalachian State University) scored two runs with two singles. Megan Kelley (Indian Creek/Lourdes) and Abby Bumbico (Martins Ferry) both scored a run and had two singles.

The offense stalled and combined with some poor defense. The team suffered their first loss of the season 7-3 in the second pool game against Impulse Fastpitch, a collection of Kentucky all-stars. Madison Johnson (John Glenn) smacked a double and scored, Kearstin (Utie) Dumolt (Tri-Valley/Muskingum) ripped two hard singles, Kelley and Mikensi Ehlinger each had RBI singles to lead the offense. Dawson took the loss on the mound in relief of Bumbico.

On Saturday afternoon, the team blasted the Sluggers 15-0 in another three inning mercy rule game. Riley Conkle (Coshocton/West Liberty) ripped a double and single with two RBI’s, Bell had three singles and scored four runs, Jaskowiak had three RBI’s on two singles, Dawson two singles and Taylor Gallentine (St. Clairsville/Muskingum) scored twice and had an RBI single. Dawson earned the win on the mound. The final pool game against Outcast barely got started when the deluge hit Cincinnati, ending the tournament. The Runners will play in two weeks at the Best of the Best Tournament in Canton.
