evansRobert I. Evans, 97, of Coshocton, Ohio passed away at Autumn Health Care on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

Robert was born in West Lafayette, Ohio on December 10, 1915, the son of the late Irvin and Nettie (Walters) Evans.

He graduated from West Lafayette High School, attended Canton Actual Business College, and served in the US Army Air Corp.

American FlagDuring his career he was a farmer, as well as Clerk of the Board of Elections. He was elected State Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives for eight years, from 1960-1968, and in his last two year term he held title Majority Whip. Robert was then hired as the Sergeant-at-arms for the Ohio House of Representatives. In 1974 Robert was appointed Liaison Officer for the City of Cleveland, Ohio, from which he retired in 1985.

Robert was a member of the West Lafayette United Methodist Church, American Legion, Rotary, Grange, Farm Bureau, Masonic Lodge, Cambridge Scottish Rite, and the Aladdin Shrine in Columbus, Ohio.

Robert married Carol Adams Evans, who preceded him in death. Robert is survived by two sons, David Evans of St. Louis, MO, and Richard I. (Jill Collins) Evans of West Lafayette; daughter-in-law, Cathy Evans of West Lafayette; step children, William Adams of Sandusky, OH, Rev. John Adams of Huron, OH, and Julie Adams of Sheffield Lake, OH; seven grandchildren, Mike (Lorie) Evans, Christy Evans, Amy Evans, Rob (Kelly Gaier) Evans, Haley Evans, Meredith Evans, and McKayla Evans; five step-grandchildren; and one niece, Julie Boutwell of Cambridge, Ohio.

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert is preceded in death by his former wife, Dorothy S. Evans.

A memorial service will take place in the Chapel of Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 am with Reverend Jim Woodring officiating.  Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the service.
